José Mejía Hernández seeks criminal investigation into ICE arrest

José Mejía Hernández, a Mexican immigrant, is seeking a criminal investigation by the Arlington County Police Department following an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on August 11 in Arlington, Virginia.

Mejía Hernández alleges he was walking to work when he was approached by masked officers. He claims he was struck by a Taser or stun gun, leading to a loss of consciousness and a subsequent traumatic brain injury, including brain swelling and a hemorrhage. His legal counsel has requested that agents face charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Attorneys for Mejía Hernández stated that witnesses reported he may have been struck by an officer’s vehicle. Bystander videos reportedly show enforcement officers tending to injuries on his face immediately following the encounter. Protesters recently gathered at the Arlington County Justice Center to support his call for justice.
