José Mourinho comments on Cristiano Ronaldo's physical state and national team role

José Mourinho has commented on the current physical condition and role of Cristiano Ronaldo following the player's departure from the Portugal national team camp. Mourinho noted that while Ronaldo remains an extraordinary talent, the natural physical decline due to age is evident, stating, “the body is no longer the same.”

The tension within the national team reportedly stemmed from a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus. During a Nations League match against Norway, Ronaldo remained on the bench despite a prior agreement that he would play the final 30 minutes. This follows a previous match against Wales where Ronaldo was substituted after only 23 minutes of play.

Mourinho suggested that Ronaldo must adapt his role to focus on leadership and mentoring younger players rather than demanding to start every match as he did in his prime. He warned that if the player does not manage his ego and accept his changing physical reality, the team dynamic could suffer.
