Real Madrid manager Mourinho defends Mbappé and boycotts press conference
Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has addressed recent media scrutiny regarding Kylian Mbappé and the controversial expulsion of Vinícius Júnior during a match against Villarreal.
Ahead of the Villarreal fixture, Mourinho dismissed reports questioning Mbappé’s professionalism during his knee injury recovery. He clarified that Mbappé’s presence at a Paris Fashion Week event was a private gathering rather than a nightclub outing, and that his cycling in Switzerland was merely for transport within a hotel's communal areas. Mourinho emphasized that Mbappé has fulfilled his medical obligations and confirmed the player would start the match.
Following Real Madrid’s 1-0 victory over Villarreal, Mourinho boycotted the post-match press conference. The decision followed the direct red card issued to Vinícius Júnior for allegedly pulling the hair of Nathan Saliba, an incident that also saw a goal by Vinícius annulled by VAR. Mourinho reportedly chose to avoid media obligations to prevent disciplinary sanctions resulting from his frustration with the officiating.
