José Mármol receives Doctor Honoris Causa from Universidad APEC
Universidad APEC (Unapec) has awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Humanities to writer, poet, essayist, and philosopher José Mármol. The ceremony took place at the Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito in Santo Domingo, held within the framework of the 28th Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2026, which honors Mármol as its featured author.
The distinction recognizes Mármol’s career of more than four decades dedicated to Dominican literature, philosophical reflection, education, and cultural promotion. During his acceptance speech, Mármol addressed the importance of education, critical thinking, and the ethical challenges posed by rapid technological advancement.
The event was attended by various high-ranking officials, including the First Lady of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Arbaje; the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo; the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu; and the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Rafael Santos Badía. Academic authorities from Unapec and representatives from the business and cultural sectors were also present.
