Michoacán recognized for reproductive rights and faces legislative security reforms

Michoacán has received national recognition for its practices regarding sexual and reproductive rights. The state's Secretariat for Substantive Equality and Development of Michoacan Women (Seimujer) was invited to a national panel at the Chamber of Deputies to present its institutional support model. A key component of this model is the '075 Tú Decides' helpline, which has provided over 900 accompagnations for pregnancy interruptions since January 2025, including support for women in indigenous communities.

In other legislative developments within the state, Deputy Fabiola Alanís proposed a reform to ensure all violent deaths of women are investigated as femicides and to penalize public officials who obstruct justice. Additionally, Deputy Sandra Garibay Esquivel called for urgent, coordinated security actions in Apatzingán due to recent explosions in residential areas. Deputy Baltazar Gaona García also addressed the upcoming selection process for the State Attorney General, emphasizing the need for transparency and constitutional adherence following the resignation of Carlos Torres Piña.

Furthermore, Deputy José Narro Céspedes raised concerns regarding human rights in cases of violence against women, specifically regarding legal procedures and child custody matters.
