José Ángel Bichir discusses mental health crisis and accident

Mexican actor José Ángel Bichir has spoken out about the mental health crisis that led to his accidental fall from a third-floor window in Mexico City on March 13, 2026. In an interview with journalist Mara Patricia Castañeda, Bichir described the incident as occurring while he was in a state of “trance” or “hypnosis,” losing awareness of his surroundings.

Bichir detailed a three-year period of accumulating anxiety, sadness, sleep deprivation, and eating disorders, which he likened to a “snowball of darkness.” He noted that his professional background led him to believe he could endure these struggles alone without seeking help.

His family, including Demián Bichir, clarified that the fall was an accident resulting from a health crisis and not a suicide attempt. The incident caused significant physical injuries, including fractures to his face, nose, clavicle, and heel, as well as abdominal trauma and dental loss. Bichir used the experience to advocate for the destigmatization of mental health and the importance of emotional balance.
