José Roberto Arruda proposes motorcycle lanes and transit reforms in Distrito Federal

José Roberto Arruda, a candidate for the government of the Distrito Federal representing the PSD, has proposed several infrastructure and transportation reforms during an electoral debate. A central part of his platform is the creation of a ‘faixa azul’ (blue lane), a dedicated lane for motorcycles modeled after systems used in São Paulo, intended to reduce traffic accidents.

Arruda also plans to establish support points for app-based drivers and delivery workers. Regarding public transit, he criticized current government subsidies for bus companies, which he claimed have reached R$ 2 billion, and pledged to implement new, transparent bidding processes for bus services.

His broader infrastructure plan includes constructing a new highway similar to the Estrada Parque Taguatinga Guará (EPTG) and a ring road to divert truck traffic away from central Brasília. For rail transport, he proposed extending the Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) from the airport to W3 Sul and utilizing public-private partnerships to build four new metro lines, expanding service to regions such as Sol Nascente, Gama, and Santa Maria.
