José Sarney discharged from hospital following abdominal surgery

Former Brazilian President José Sarney has been discharged from UDI Hospital in São Luís, Maranhão, following an abdominal surgery. He had been hospitalized since October 9 after previously undergoing treatment for pneumonia in São Paulo.

Medical bulletins indicated that Sarney showed satisfactory clinical evolution during his nine-day stay. Following his discharge on Saturday, October 17, he will continue to receive outpatient care.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Sarney in São Luís on Tuesday, October 20, during a campaign trip to the state. The meeting occurred as Sarney recovers and follows his recent medical procedures.
