José Sarney hospitalized in São Paulo for pneumonia treatment
Former Brazilian President José Sarney, 96, remains hospitalized at Hospital Sírio-Libanês in São Paulo to treat bacterial pneumonia. He was admitted on Thursday, September 24, following a transfer from Maranhão.
Medical reports indicate that Sarney's clinical condition is stable. The medical team, led by Professor Dr. Roberto Kalil Filho, is overseeing his treatment, which includes the use of intravenous antimicrobials. His respiratory condition has shown improvement, allowing him to breathe without supplemental respiratory support.
Sarney had previously been treated for a respiratory infection at UDI Hospital in São Luís, Maranhão, earlier in September. He traveled to São Paulo to undergo a detailed medical check-up due to his advanced age. Through social media, Sarney has expressed gratitude for the messages and prayers received during his hospitalization.
