Jose Mourinho appointed Real Madrid manager for 2026-27 season
Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho is set to return to Real Madrid, taking charge for the 2026-27 campaign – his second stint at the club after a 13‑year gap. Mourinho has outlined two transfer targets: winger Vitinha, whom he describes as "very hard to get," and midfielder Mateus Fernandes, estimated at around €100 million.
In a recent podcast interview, Mourinho joked, “I want Real Madrid players to be ready as soon as possible and pack their bags for the World Cup,” underscoring his intent to have a full squad assembled from day one of pre‑season preparations. He dismissed rumors of immediate squad cuts, saying the reports were “nonsense” and that he intends to keep the best players available.
The coach’s arrival comes as Real Madrid looks to reshape its midfield, with several current members such as Gonzalo García, Eduardo Camavinga and others reportedly not in his plans, prompting speculation about their future elsewhere.
