Jose Mourinho criticizes Mikel Arteta following Arsenal contract extension

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has criticized Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta following Arteta’s recent long-term contract extension with the North London club.

After signing a new deal that keeps him at Arsenal until 2030, Arteta remarked that the club’s current project is ‘just the beginning’ of what can be achieved. Mourinho used a press conference to suggest that such a sentiment regarding patience and long-term building would not be tolerated at Real Madrid. Mourinho noted that the magnitude of expectations at the Bernabeu is different, stating, “Mikel Arteta renewed his contract and said something like ‘we are still starting’... The demands here [at Madrid] are simply different.”

Arteta, who has been with Arsenal since December 2019, expressed that committing his future to the club is a privilege and highlighted the unique character of the institution.
