Josef František docudrama ‘Osamělý vlk’ to premiere in Czech cinemas

The historical docudrama ‘Osamělý vlk’ (The Lone Wolf), directed by Ondřej Veverka, is set to release in Czech cinemas at the end of August. The film focuses on the life of Josef František, a prominent Czechoslovak fighter pilot and one of the most successful Allied pilots during the Battle of Britain.

Filming took place at the Kbely Aviation Museum, which provided an authentic backdrop featuring rare pre-war Czechoslovak aircraft. To ensure historical accuracy, the production collaborated with Jiří Rajlich from the Military History Institute Prague. The film aims to portray František not just as a war hero, but as a complex individual known for his strong independence and instinctual flying style.

The narrative follows František’s journey from the Czechoslovak air force through combat in Poland and his eventual service in the Royal Air Force (RAF) with the 303rd Polish Fighter Squadron. The production utilizes extensive visual effects and digital post-production from studios such as QQ Studio Ostrava and Magiclab to reconstruct aerial combat sequences. The cast includes Tadeáš Moravec in the lead role, alongside Josef Trojan, Jan Nedbal, and Piotr Trojan.
