Josef Martinez nearing return to MLS with Columbus Crew
Josef Martinez is finalizing a deal to return to Major League Soccer with the Columbus Crew. The 33-year-old Venezuelan striker has reportedly agreed to a contract that runs through the remainder of the 2026 season, with an option for the 2027 season.
Martinez will be reunited with interim manager Laurent Courtois, who previously coached him at CF Montreal. The signing comes as the Crew seeks to bolster their attacking options following season-ending knee surgery for designated player Wessam Abou Ali. Martinez will not occupy a Designated Player spot on the roster.
A former MLS MVP and Golden Boot winner, Martinez previously enjoyed a highly successful tenure with Atlanta United. Following his time in Atlanta, he played for Inter Miami, CF Montreal, and most recently Club Tijuana in Liga MX, where he mutually terminated his contract in May.
