Josef Newgarden Wins IndyCar Gateway Race Amid Rain Delays

Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden claimed victory at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 on the 1.25‑mile short oval at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. The race was interrupted twice by rain‑induced red flags, and Newgarden led the final 40 laps to secure his sixth career win at Gateway and his fifth triumph in seven attempts there, all while nursing an injured left foot sustained two weeks earlier in the Indianapolis 500.

He finished 0.66 seconds ahead of Marcus Ericsson, who led 114 laps, with Christian Rasmussen completing the podium. The event also saw contact between Nolan Siegel and Alex Palou, and Palou later ran out of fuel on pit road, losing two laps. The win extended Newgarden’s points lead in the season standings.
