Josefina Rodríguez Zamora defends luxury assets
Mexico’s Federal Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, has defended her possession of luxury items, including Rolex and Cartier watches and diamond accessories, following public criticism. The controversy arose after photographs surfaced on social media showing the official with high-end goods, creating a perceived contrast with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration policy of austerity and simplicity.
Rodríguez Zamora stated that these items were acquired using her own personal resources and are part of her family heritage. She noted that she built her wealth through years of work in the restaurant industry prior to her government appointment. The Secretary emphasized that all her assets are properly documented in her official financial disclosures and that no public funds were used for these purchases. She further asserted that her personal life and family matters remain within the private sphere.
