Josep Grau, former Catalan Minister and Mayor of Mollerussa, dies at 80
Josep Grau, the former Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries for the Generalitat de Catalunya and former mayor of Mollerussa, has died at the age of 80. His passing was confirmed by the Mollerussa City Council.
Grau held several prominent political positions throughout his career. He served as the mayor of Mollerussa from 1987 to 1999, a period marked by significant urban, economic, and demographic growth. During his tenure, the Pla d'Urgell region was officially created in 1988, establishing Mollerussa as its capital.
His political trajectory also included serving as the president of the Diputació de Lleida from 1990 to 1999, president of the Catalan Association of Municipalities and Counties (ACM) from 1996 to 1999, and a deputy in the Spanish Congress between 1993 and 1994. He served as a regional minister from 1999 to 2003.
