Josep Minguell to Install Fresco at Benozzo Gozzoli Museum in Tuscany

Muralist Josep Minguell, an artist from Tàrrega, Spain, will create a new fresco for the Museo Benozzo Gozzoli in Castelfiorentino, Tuscany, Italy. The work, covering roughly nine to ten square metres, will be painted in his workshop and later transferred to the museum using the strappo technique, with installation planned for mid‑2027.

Minguell described the project as one of the most challenging of his career, saying he approaches it "with fear and terror" because it places his contemporary work face‑to‑face with the Renaissance master Benozzo Gozzoli’s originals. The fresco will be permanently displayed alongside Gozzoli’s 15th‑century murals and will depict a painter at work, surrounded by pigments and the four classical elements, illustrating the creative process of fresco painting. The project was presented remotely with officials from the Italian museum and local authorities in Castelfiorentino.
