Josep Pedrerol leaves Atresmedia and joins Mediaset to lead ‘El Chiringuito’
After 13 years at Atresmedia, veteran sports presenter Josep Pedrerol ended his tenure with a final broadcast of "El Chiringuito" on July 20, 2026, coinciding with Spain’s triumph at the 2026 World Cup. In his farewell he thanked the network and said, "Nos vemos en la tele".
Mediaset España announced a long‑term agreement with Pedrerol, confirming that he will head the sport‑talk format "El Chiringuito" from the next season, keeping his regular panel of collaborators. Pedrerol remarked, "Mediaset no ficha a Josep Pedrerol, ficha a un equipazo de deportes" and added that the new show will retain its signature mix of analysis, debate and entertainment.
Atresmedia confirmed that its sports news program "Jugones" will continue without Pedrerol, while La Sexta is restructuring its entire sports editorial team in response to his departure. The move is seen as a strategic boost for Mediaset’s content portfolio and a major personnel shift in Spanish television sports programming.
