Josep Pedrerol's 'El Chiringuto' switches to Mediaset
Spanish sports broadcaster Josep Pedrerol confirmed that his flagship debate show "El Chiringuito" will leave Atresmedia and join Mediaset. The move was announced on 22 July, ending a 13‑year tenure at Atresmedia and marking a major shift in the country's late‑night sports‑talk market.
Mediaset said the acquisition includes Pedrerol’s full production team and that the programme will retain its usual format and schedule. While the exact channel has not been disclosed, rumours point to Cuatro or the Energy channel, with a launch expected in August to coincide with the start of LaLiga. Pedrerol emphasised the transfer as a team‑wide deal, stating, "Mediaset no ficha a Josep Pedrerol, ficha a un equipazo de deportes," underscoring the strategic intent of Mediaset to strengthen its sports‑entertainment offering.
The transition is seen as a significant boost for Mediaset’s primetime lineup, aiming to capture the strong audience base that "El Chiringuito" has built over the years.
