Josep Vicent named 2026 harvest patron for Alicante DOP

The Regulatory Council of the Alicante Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) has named Josep Vicent, artistic director of ADDA Simfònica and the Argovia Philharmonic, as the patron for the 2026 harvest.

Vicent was selected for his contributions to the region's musical landscape, specifically for establishing the resident orchestra at the provincial auditorium. His career includes GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominations, as well as several Spanish Music Academy Awards.

The 2026 harvest season has been characterized by high temperatures, leading to an accelerated ripening cycle and one of the shortest harvest periods on record. Despite the brevity caused by heat, the expected volume is approximately 15 million kilos, with quality standards expected to remain high despite previous challenges from drought and reduced cultivation areas. An official ceremony for the appointment will be held on September 28 at the Heretat de Cesilia estate in Novelda.
