Joseph McGrail‑Bateup, the official town crier for Canberra and Queanbeyan, died unexpectedly on 31 July at the age of 58. The 58‑year‑old was known for holding Guinness World Records for the world’s loudest shout and the fastest time to shoot ten arrows into a target, and he hosted the weekly No‑Name Trivia Show.

Family, friends and community members expressed shock and sorrow. His daughter Audrey announced the death on social media, describing him as “beloved” and thanking supporters for their thoughts and prayers. Tributes on Facebook highlighted his kindness, his role as an “Australian legend,” and his contribution to local events.
