Joseph Mwanamvekha urges DPP to end internal divisions
Joseph Mwanamvekha, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-president (South) and Malawi's Minister of Finance, has called on party members to cease internal fighting and reputation-smearing. Speaking at the Mulhako wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival in Mulanje, Mwanamvekha emphasized that the party should focus on national rebuilding rather than succession battles.
Mwanamvekha affirmed his loyalty to President Peter Mutharika, stating, “There is only one President at a time. At the moment, our President is Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, until 2030.” He urged supporters to unite behind Mutharika to fulfill campaign promises and stabilize the nation.
Addressing the country's economic challenges, the Finance Minister noted that reversing the deterioration of the past five years would take time. He outlined government measures to restore stability, including reducing government travel expenditures, promoting commercial agriculture to boost exports, strengthening mining regulations, and expanding business loan access for women and youth through the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund.
