Joseph Sawyer wins GCW World Championship in Atlantic City

Joseph Sawyer, formerly known as Joe Gacy in WWE, captured the GCW World Championship at the GCW Homecoming Weekend Night 1 event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Sawyer defeated Atticus Cogar in the main event at the Showboat Hotel, ending Cogar’s 266-day title reign which included 25 successful defenses.

The match concluded after interference from Drake Wuertz, a former NXT referee known as Drake Younger. Wuertz prevented Max Recon, an associate of Cogar’s VNDL group, from assisting the champion, allowing Sawyer to secure the victory with his ‘Sister Abigail’ maneuver.

Following his appearance, Wuertz addressed the crowd during the second night of the event. He issued an apology for past controversial associations and political activities, stating he had ‘lost his way’ and expressing a desire for an opportunity to prove himself within the wrestling community.
