Josephine Cochrane highlighted in American manufacturing series

The Alliance for American Manufacturing has launched a new series titled ‘Unsung Heroes of American Manufacturing’ to highlight underrepresented individuals who contributed to the nation's industrial history.

One featured subject is Josephine Cochrane (1841–1913), the inventor of the dishwasher. Born in Ashtabula, Ohio, Cochrane developed her invention in Chicago during the late 1800s to address the labor-intensive task of cleaning dishes by hand.
