Josh Allen advocates for natural grass amid preseason preparations

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has publicly advocated for the NFL to transition from artificial turf to natural grass, citing significant physical health concerns. Allen reported experiencing painful leg burns from turf surfaces that have been severe enough to interfere with his sleep. He noted that while he feels great playing on natural grass, he can feel the physical toll of artificial surfaces the following day.

In preparation for the Bills' preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Highmark Stadium, Allen is expected to sit out to avoid injury risk. However, Bills head coach Joe Brady plans to have Allen call a select number of plays from the sideline during the game.

The preseason matchup between the Bills and Steelers is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026. While Allen will not take snaps, the game serves as a critical roster evaluation period for both teams, particularly for the Steelers as they finalize their 53-man roster.
