Josh Hokit’s White House UFC Comment Sparks Controversy

On June 15, 2026 the White House hosted the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn, attended by President Donald Trump. Fighter Josh Hokit won his bout and, during a post‑fight interview with podcaster Joe Rogan on the stage, repeated the conspiracy claim that “Michelle Obama is a man.”

The remark, a long‑standing transphobic and racist trope, was highlighted by media outlets. White House spokesperson Steven Cheung responded only to Hokit’s performance, saying he “showed toughness and the ability to pressure his opponent,” and did not address the comment. Hokit, a former college football and wrestling athlete who failed to secure a lasting NFL career, has been criticized for defamation of the former first lady. The incident adds to the political controversy surrounding the Trump‑hosted event.

The UFC fight itself featured Hokit against veteran Derrick Lewis, who was stopped by technical knockout in the second round. The event and Hokit’s statement have prompted discussions about the use of the White House for partisan spectacles and the spread of hateful rhetoric.
