Josh Homme discusses loneliness while touring with Queens of the Stone Age
Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has opened up about the sense of loneliness he experiences while touring. In an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music, the 53-year-old musician discussed the emotional challenges of life on the road ahead of the October 30 release of the band's ninth studio album, ‘Perfecth’.
Homme described the touring lifestyle as a form of ‘arrested development’ where every night feels like a Saturday, often participating in others' celebrations. He noted that his ‘interior loneliness starts getting louder’ once he is offstage. He specifically mentioned that being away from his three children has intensified these feelings, stating that when family becomes more important than music, the distance ‘gets really loud’.
Despite these reflections, Homme clarified that he is not complaining about his career, but rather describing the reality of observing the lives of others—such as couples on dates or families in parks—while being physically separated from his own.
