Josh Homme recalls being overshadowed by Tom Waits

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme recently shared a story regarding a humbling experience performing at the Bridge School Benefit. During an appearance on the ‘We Might Be Drunk’ podcast, Homme recounted the difficulty of following singer-songwriter Tom Waits during the acoustic-only charity event.

Homme described Waits as being exceptionally captivating, noting how the artist used humor and charm to engage the audience while delivering powerful musical performances. Homme remarked that the experience felt as though the band was ‘destined to die’ because they could not match the impact of Waits’ set, calling it perhaps the most they have ever been ‘destroyed by another artist.’

Adding to the difficulty of the moment, Homme noted that the band faced immediate technical issues upon taking the stage, including a microphone falling over during their opening counts.
