Josh Kerr eyes Commonwealth Games mile gold after setting new world record

Scottish middle‑distance runner Josh Kerr broke the 27‑year‑old mile world record with a time of 3:42.66 at the London Diamond League, surpassing Hicham El Guerrouj. The 28‑year‑old, who achieved the mark under his "Project 222" plan, said the record is a step toward becoming the best middle‑distance runner and targeting Olympic gold.

Kerr entered the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as the heavy favourite for the mile, which returns to the programme after 60 years. He will compete at Scotstoun against fellow Scot Jake Wightman, Australian teenager Cam Myers and other international contenders, aiming to claim the title and add to his recent world‑championship successes.
