Josh Simmons placed on injured reserve by Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle Josh Simmons has been placed on injured reserve due to a bulging, herniated disk in his lower back. The move follows a period of physical setbacks for the 2025 first-round draft pick, who has also dealt with lingering symptoms from a torn patellar tendon suffered during his time at Ohio State.
Prior to the roster move, Simmons was involved in a confrontation during an offensive team meeting last Wednesday. Reports indicate that head coach Andy Reid instructed Simmons to put his feet down after he was sitting with them up; Simmons cited back and hip pain as the reason for his posture. Following a brief exchange, quarterback Patrick Mahomes intervened, echoing Reid’s directive for Simmons to leave the meeting and seek medical treatment. Simmons later apologized to team leadership for his handling of the interaction.
Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs' vice president of sports medicine and performance, noted that while previous MRIs showed improvement, Simmons has plateaued in his rehabilitation process. The team decided to place him on injured reserve to allow for further consultation regarding his rehabilitation steps.
