Turek, who was born with spina bifida and won a Paralympic gold medal, highlighted his disability and resilience during a hand‑cycling tour across Iowa’s corn‑belt, meeting voters in towns along a 60‑mile bike trek.

The campaign drew significant outside support, with the VoteVets super‑PAC spending $9.7 million on advertisements for Turek. The outcome will help determine which party controls the U.S. Senate, making the race a focal point of national political interest.
