Joshua Báez placed on injured list by St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie outfielder Joshua Báez on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. The move, which was backdated to Thursday, effectively ends Báez’s 2026 rookie season following his early removal from a game against the San Francisco Giants.
In response to the injury, the Cardinals have recalled infielder César Prieto from Triple-A Memphis. Prieto has been a frequent roster addition for the team as they navigate various injuries throughout the season.
Báez appeared in 29 games during his debut campaign, showing significant production for the organization. With the Cardinals nearing the end of their regular season and facing elimination from playoff contention, the decision to sideline the rookie avoids the risk of further injury during the final nine games.
