Joshua Britton secures startup funding for biotech firm Debut
Joshua Britton, the founder and CEO of biotechnology startup Debut, secured his first major investment following a chance encounter with a passenger while working as an Uber driver to fund his research.
Britton, who holds a PhD in biochemistry and organic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, focuses on synthetic and cell-free biology. His company, Debut, develops active ingredients for the cosmetics industry by using enzymes or microorganisms to recreate valuable molecules typically harvested from plants or flowers. This biotechnological approach aims to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional natural ingredient harvesting in the multi-billion dollar beauty industry.
