Joshua Fahrni retires from professional ice hockey at age 23

Swiss ice hockey player Joshua Fahrni has announced his immediate retirement from professional sports at the age of 23. The center requested the termination of his contract with the ZSC Lions organization for private reasons.

Fahrni, who recently moved from the SCL Tigers to the ZSC Lions organization, had appeared in five games for the GCK Lions in the Swiss League this season. He stated that his decision was the result of absolute honesty with himself, noting that success at a professional level requires daily conviction and motivation that he no longer felt he could sustain.

Fahrni was trained at SC Bern, where he made his National League debut in the 2020/21 season. Following his time with SC Bern, he played for the SCL Tigers, though his appearances were limited by back problems. ZSC Lions sports director Sven Leuenberger expressed regret over the departure but respected the player's decision.
