Josip Varvodić campaigns for HOO presidency, promises reform and international support
Josip Varvodić, a cardiothoracic surgeon, presented a seven‑pillar programme for the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO) that emphasizes responsible management, stronger cooperation with national federations, greater support for athletes and coaches, and a higher international profile. He said, "My decision to run came because I believe the Croatian Olympic Committee must be better. HOO must become again the first partner and friend of Croatian sport." In the first 100 days he plans to meet all national sport federations, analyse HOO operations and begin implementing key measures.
Varvodić also highlighted his international network, receiving public backing from European Aquatics president António José Silva, who stated, "It would be very good for Croatian sport," as well as other European sport officials. The election for HOO president will be held at the Assembly on 29 July, with competition from Dragan Primorac. Numerous Croatian federations—including handball, water polo, wrestling, fencing, and others—have publicly endorsed Varvodić’s candidacy.
