Josipa Turk Marks 101st Birthday at Renovated Kantrida Senior Home in Croatia

Josipa Turk, a 101‑year‑old resident of the Dom za starije osobe Kantrida in Rijeka, celebrated her birthday with family, fellow residents and staff. County prefect Ivica Lukanović attended, presenting flowers and a gift while noting the importance of dignified care for the elderly.

The celebration coincided with the completion of a major energy‑efficiency renovation of the facility, costing almost €5.5 million. The works, finished in June, included a new façade, upgraded windows, modern lighting, a photovoltaic system, heat pumps and improved accessibility ramps. Director Melita Raukar highlighted the growing average age of residents—86 years—and the increasing need for institutional care as life expectancy rises.
