Josué Gutiérrez faces removal request by Peruvian Senator

Senator Mirtha Vásquez of the Ahora Nación party has filed a constitutional complaint seeking the immediate removal and 10-year disqualification from public office of Peru's Ombudsman, Josué Gutiérrez.

The complaint cites several alleged constitutional violations, including controversial remarks regarding a potential dissolution of Congress by Keiko Fujimori. Vásquez argues that Gutiérrez's comments ignored constitutional provisions regarding the Senate's continued function.

Additionally, the Senator accuses the Ombudsman of failing to adequately monitor human rights violations during the social protests of 2022-2023 and 2025. The legal challenge also highlights potential conflicts of interest, alleging that Gutiérrez intervened in legal matters to benefit his sister, Sara Gutiérrez, and supported the statute of limitations in the case of Daniel Urresti.
