Celtic returns to Premiership summit as Jota makes injury comeback

Celtic returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park. Camilo Duran opened the scoring in the ninth minute, followed by a second-half goal from Benjamin Nygren.

The match marked the long-awaited return of Portuguese winger Jota, who entered as a substitute in the 74th minute. His appearance follows an 18-month absence due to a serious right knee ligament injury sustained in April 2025. Jota expressed his emotional relief regarding the comeback, comparing the feeling of returning to the pitch to “finding my child again.”

Despite his return, the player is not expected to feature in Celtic’s upcoming Europa League match against his former club, Benfica. Manager Martin O'Neill expressed optimism regarding Jota's reintegration into the squad.
