Jotungrav releases debut album ‘Elegi’

Finnish progressive folk/black metal band Jotungrav has released its debut album, titled ‘Elegi’, through Inverse Records. The release marks a musical evolution for the project, led by singer-songwriter Matias Stenman, as the band moves toward progressive melodic death metal while maintaining its roots in blackened folk metal.

The album is described as an atmospheric journey that blends Norse paganism and spirituality with ancient and modern philosophy. Lyrical themes focus on philosophical reflections regarding humanity, suffering, and perseverance.

Musically, ‘Elegi’ features grand orchestrations, melancholic passages, and heroic melodies. The compositions vary in length, with some tracks exceeding ten minutes and incorporating acoustic interludes to balance intense blast beats and orchestral elements. The album was composed through organic experimentation over the course of a year.
