Journalism faces systemic threats from AI and digital shifts

Journalist László József addressed a workshop organized by the European Federation of Journalists and the Press Union in Budapest, highlighting the growing challenges facing the profession. He noted that journalists and their advocacy organizations face difficulties including poor working conditions, the vulnerability of freelancers, weak business models, and disadvantageous positions against digital platforms.

According to the 2026 Media Pluralism Monitor, risks regarding working conditions are particularly high in Hungary. József emphasized that while the need for storytelling remains, the profession is being fundamentally reshaped by the internet, social media, algorithms, and most recently, artificial intelligence.
