Journalism leaders to meet in Bogotá for press freedom and AI discussions

The Inter American Press Association (SIP) will hold its 82nd General Assembly in Bogotá, Colombia, from October 22 to 25, 2026. The event will gather editors, journalists, and media executives from the Americas and Spain to address challenges such as press freedom, artificial intelligence, and new business models.

Key participants include Marc Lacey, editorial director of The New York Times, and Luis Fernández, executive president of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. The assembly will focus on the impact of AI on journalistic work, newsroom transformation, and the relationship between media and audiences.

In a related development regarding information integrity, Colombiacheck will mark its 10th anniversary on October 14, 2026, in Bogotá. The event, titled ‘The future of verification we build together’, will host a discussion with Nina Ulrich, a fact-checker from Der Spiegel, to examine the evolution of fact-checking in the era of deepfakes and synthetic content.
