Journalist Abdoulaye Top Sylla dies in Guinea

Guinean journalist Abdoulaye Top Sylla passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Conakry. A graduate of the Centre d’études des sciences et techniques de l’information (CESTI) in Dakar, Top Sylla was a respected figure in the nation's media landscape.

Throughout his career, he was noted for his professional rigor and editorial talent, particularly during his time with the L’Indépendant/Démocrate press group. Colleagues have described him as a courageous journalist who remained committed to press freedom, even facing challenges with authorities during the Lansana Conté era.

Funeral arrangements include a body removal from the Sino-Guinean Friendship Hospital in Kipé, followed by funeral prayers at the Fayçal Mosque in Conakry and burial at the Came cemetery.
