Journalist Alaa al-Rimawi arrested in Al-Bireh

Palestinian journalist Alaa al-Rimawi, the founder of the social initiative ‘Tanaazul Lillah’ (Forgiveness for God), has been arrested by Israeli forces. The arrest occurred during a dawn raid on his home in Al-Bireh.

Al-Rimawi’s initiative gained widespread popularity across the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and within Palestinian territories by encouraging creditors to forgive the debts of individuals unable to pay. The campaign was inspired by a case involving a teacher struggling with debt. According to reports, the initiative successfully facilitated the forgiveness of debts totaling between 65 million and 75 million shekels.

The movement emerged amidst significant economic hardship in the Palestinian territories, characterized by reduced economic activity and financial instability following the escalation of conflict in October 2023.
