Journalist Ali Tarakçı has been arrested in Ankara following an investigation into a social media post on the X platform. Tarakçı had claimed that a 'very important minister' would resign on Friday, a statement that prompted an investigation by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for 'publicly spreading misleading information' under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code.

Following his detention and legal proceedings, the Ankara 8th Criminal Court of Peace ordered his arrest. Additionally, the Ankara 7th Criminal Court of Peace issued a decision to block access to Tarakçı's X account. During the investigation, authorities also conducted a search at his residence and seized digital materials.

In response to the rumors sparked by the post, Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek publicly denied any claims regarding his resignation. Tarakçı has reportedly stated in his testimony that his post was not intended to target any specific minister directly.
