Journalist Ana Paula Xavier turns cancer battle into activism in Acre
Ana Paula Xavier, a journalist, teacher, and writer from Rio Branco, Acre, has transitioned from a cancer patient to an activist dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
Diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma in March 2022 at the age of 33, Xavier had no prior family history of the disease. Her diagnosis followed her own insistence on an ultrasound after discovering a small lump during a shower, despite an initial inconclusive clinical exam.
Her medical treatment involved tumor removal surgery, six sessions of chemotherapy, 18 sessions of radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Xavier has since used her personal experience to lead lectures and campaigns, particularly during the ‘Pink October’ awareness month, to advocate for early detection and support.
