Journalist Ana Thaís Matos defends Corinthians against refereeing allegations
Journalist Ana Thaís Matos, associated with Grupo Globo and SporTV, has publicly defended the Brazilian football club Corinthians following allegations of potential favoritism. Using her Instagram account, Matos responded to reports suggesting that officials at Internacional are concerned about maneuvers to prevent Corinthians from being relegated.
Matos accused the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and referees of employing a specific method to avoid accusations of bias. She claimed that after clubs accuse the CBF of favoring Corinthians, referees intentionally make mistakes against the team to demonstrate impartiality, leaving the club disadvantaged and silent.
This controversy follows Internacional's recent 2:1 defeat against Fluminense. The club issued an official note expressing indignation over refereeing decisions, specifically citing a missed penalty and a failure to issue a second yellow card to player Renê. Both clubs are currently competing to avoid relegation in the Brasileirão.
