Brîndușa Armanca, prominent Romanian journalist, dies at 72

Renowned Romanian journalist, author, and university professor Brîndușa Armanca has died at the age of 72. A prominent figure in the Timișoara media and cultural landscape, she was recently named an Honorary Citizen of Timișoara.

Armanca’s career spanned over four decades across print, radio, and television. She served as the director of the TVR Timișoara regional studio from 1997 to 2003 and was a founding member of the Journalism Department at the West University of Timișoara. Her work also extended into cultural diplomacy, having directed the Romanian Cultural Institute in Budapest between 2006 and 2012.

Throughout her career, she was recognized for her investigative work and her commitment to democratic values and freedom of expression. She received numerous accolades, including the Cultural Distinction of the Romanian Academy and the Hungarian Prize for Cultural Merit. Timișoara Mayor Dominic Fritz described her passing as the loss of a benchmark for professionalism and civic courage.
