Journalist András Murányi threatened over Fradiváros reporting

Journalist András Murányi, the managing editor of Index, has reported receiving threats against himself and his family from the Facebook group ‘Grüne Jugend Ferencváros’. The threats specifically targeted his deceased brother, former editor-in-chief Marcell Murányi, using disrespectful language.

These incidents follow reporting on the ‘Fradiváros’ project, a development involving 25 billion HUF in state funding for the Ferencvárosi Torna Club (FTC). The project, which began around 2016, has faced scrutiny regarding the use of public funds. Murányi noted that while professional criticism is expected, targeting family members constitutes an unacceptable boundary.

This follows previous threats directed at sports economist János Kele, who was among the first to report on potential financial irregularities, including allegations of budget fraud and abuse of office related to the state funding of the project.
