Journalist Bahadır Özgür detained in Istanbul
Investigative journalist Bahadır Özgür has been detained by Istanbul police as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. He faces allegations of “violating the confidentiality of the investigation” following his reporting on a fund embezzlement scandal.
During his police statement, Özgür maintained that his reporting did not include any documents or information protected by confidentiality orders or personal data protection laws. He noted that his work was based on information previously disclosed by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, specifically regarding a list of 141 high earners. Özgür argued that the names mentioned in his reports, including former AKP Deputy Chairperson Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, had already been made public by official authorities.
