Journalist Bushra al-Tawil faces harsh conditions in solitary confinement
The Prisoner Club has reported that Palestinian journalist Bushra al-Tawil is facing harsh conditions during her 50th day in solitary confinement. According to information obtained following a recent visit, al-Tawil has been subjected to frequent cell raids involving physical assaults and the use of gas. She also reported continuous verbal abuse and harassment under 24-hour surveillance.
Regarding her health, al-Tawil is suffering from dryness in her eyes, skin, and hands, as well as numbness in her hands due to being handcuffed. She had previously been suffering from scabies. Living conditions are described as extremely difficult, with insufficient food, access only to discolored tap water, a lack of clean clothing, and poor-quality bedding.
Al-Tawil was transferred from Damon Prison to the isolation unit at Ohal Uz Prison in Beersheba, though she was initially told she was being moved to Damon. Her administrative detention order has been renewed for an additional four months. The Prisoner Club has called on international human rights organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, to intervene and ensure her protection.
